The Kingfishers various blues are being laid down and detail added such as the turquoise tips to the feathers. Here we can see how the hours of detail work give the hard wood a soft feathery look.

The orange breast and belly are painted on. After a base orange was applied a darker orange was flowed into the recessed areas and a lighter orange used to pick out the detail. This gives a more three dimensional look than simply painting on a base monotone orange.

The  kingfisher is attached to its perch by a brass rod which goes from the birds belly into the perch. The Kingfisher sits so close to the perch that the attachment is invisible. The other foot is then added and two part epoxy used to build up the foot before it is painted.

The finished piece.
